Let Reason Go (Spiritual Poetry) — Mahmoud Shabestari (Video)

Let reason go. For His light
burns reason up from head to foot.

If you wish to see that Face,
seek another eye. The philosopher
with his two eyes sees double,
so is unable to see the unity of the Truth.

As His light burns up the angels,
even so does it consume reason.
As the light of our eyes is to the sun,
so is the light of reason to the Light of Lights.

~ Mahmoud Shabestari

It sounds simple at first, but just think about this for a moment. Imagine not trying to find the Truth and letting go of the need to be right.

You can be right. You can be wrong. It really doesn’t matter, Shabestari says.

Because once you experience “God’s light,” it will burn everything you thought you knew…even reason itself.

This line actually reminds me of a quote from Hafiz, where he says, “Love has befriended me so completely, it has turned to ash and freed me of every concept and image my mind has ever known.”
